The Starry Fry food truck is in hibernation until spring—check back for updates!
What kind of oil do you use?
We use 100% canola oil for all of our frying.
What is poutine?
Originating in Canada, traditional poutine consists of fries topped with cheese curds and brown gravy. We've taken that concept to another level by using fresh-cut Belgian style fries and creating a variety of flavor profiles with our "un-cone-ventional" topping combinations. We also have dessert poutines using fried sweet dough as the foundation for our cones of indulgence.
What are Belgian style fries?
With a history reaching back over 300 years, traditional Belgian frites are the result of soaking thick-cut bintje potatoes in a brining solution, frying them twice in animal fat (cooling in between), and serving them in a paper cone. We refer to our fries as "Belgian style," due to some slight differences. We hand cut all of our high quality, Idaho potatoes and then take those 1/4" fries through a process of soaking, blanching (first frying), and cooling before they are fried again, to order, in canola oil. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, each generous order of fries is served in a paper cone . . . or in a to-go box if you're on your way!
Are your fries gluten-free?
Yes! They are potatoes fried in oil and then sprinkled with a bit of salt—that's it. The only items on our menu containing gluten are the spaetzle, the grilled cheese sandwiches, and the dough used in our desserts.
Can you tell me about those sauces that aren't self-explanatory?
Starry Sauce is a mixture of mayonnaise and our homemade BBQ sauce. It's truly a best of both worlds dipping sauce situation. Harissa Ketchup combines ketchup with roasted red peppers, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, cinnamon, cumin, and a few other ingredients to make a flavorful vegan sauce that reflects its Mediterranean/Moroccan influence.
I've noticed that you don't sell water in plastic bottles and that your utensils are made out of wood. What's up with that?
Since single-use utensils and packaging are a food truck must, we provide our customers as many eco-friendly items as possible. Most everything that accompanies your order is made from recycled or renewable resources and is biodegradable (some are compostable!)—our way of minimizing as much as possible The Starry Fry's environmental impact.
